Rivals.com has USF and UCF meeting in the St. Pete Bowl on December 19. That could be a career saver for O’Leary. Or it could possibly be a death blow. To finally win a bowl game AND beat USF would kill two birds with one stone. Away goes two of the biggest criticisms against Coach O. But yet another Bowl loss and yet another against USF, could be a killer. My guess is UCF won’t want any part of that game. Tribble will probably hold out for the GMAC Bowl or Hawaii Bowl. Anything that won’t put us in with USF. He doesn’t want that kind of pressure.

If we don’t win C-USA and USF doesn’t win the Big East and we are both bowl eligible, we will play every year in the St Pete Bowl. Who else will they want there? Geography wise the Big East is the same as the MAC. C-USA’s next closest team is UAB I think. The bowl gets a Big East v C-USA. The best part about it is that no matter how hard Leavitt tries he will have to play us every year unless he wins the Big East. They could have more wins than us and end up in the same crappy bowl, which does the opposite of his stated goal to separate from UCF.

I seriously doubt the two year old St. Pete Bowl has the clout to pick who they want from the Big East. After USF’s win over West-by-gawd last night, I doubt we’ll see USF. Which is probably a sigh of relief to O’Leary. At least he can go a year without losing to the Bulls. Maybe now we’ll get someone we can actually beat.
