Miami vs. FSU

By FCOadmin. Posted in General | 4 Comments »

How many people watched that game last night thinking ahead to the Miami UCF game wondering how bad Miami was going to kill us? WOW that game was fun to watch. Maybe the defense was a bit weak but it sure was nice to watch two teams move the ball. I remember when UCF used to do that. Back in the days of Culpepper. Back in the Ryan Schneider. Back when we had weapons like Brandon Marshall, Mike Walker, Alex Haynes, Kevin Smith, etc. What happened to those days? Rocky Ross reminds me of Jimmy Fryzel but that’s about it.  Newsome is the one WR that looks like he could be a weapon but the coaching staff seems determined to use him sparingly. Harvey has potential but he’s no Kevin Smith. But then again who is? The first thing that needs to happen is we need to settle on a QB. If we’re still screwing around by the Miami game, the Canes will crush us.  Look how bad Miami was last year when they had the Marve-Harris thing going on. Now Marve is gone and Harris is the man. Look at them now.

I concur that Miami is going to crush us. Our DBs showed they are nothing close to what we had last year, and there is no real improvement on the offensive side of the ball. UCF will likely shut down the run game and get beat in the passing game. Back to last week, the only mildly comforting thing about CUSA football was that ECU, SMU, and Marshall all struggled to beat relatively easy opponents as well. I’d like to add a name to the UCF past, Doug Gabriel. He was always exciting to watch and was a TD threat every time he was on the field. On another note, I took one of my old Soldiers to the Samford game. He was a neutral party not for or against the Knights. He called the UCF football program a polished turd. He went on to say we have great facilities, a great school, but no substance when it comes to football.

Gabriel had a nasty habit of making a great catch at a crucial time and then fumbling. I’ve always been told you can’t polish a turd. At least we’ve accomplished something here. UAB is a concern. THey smacked Rice around pretty good. You’re right though, this conference is highly winnable. It’s at least very do-able to qualify for a bowl. You have plenty of bowl tie-ins with C-USA, unlike the MAC. Even if you can’t get by USM, Tulsa, and Houston, there are still two or three bowls left after they get theirs. But really there is absolutely no reason we shouldn’t be better than those three. We have better high school talent in our area than almost every team in the conference. SMU might be even. Houston and Rice might be close.

UCF honestly has no shot what-so-ever to beat Miami this year. They just embarrassed 2 good defenses in FSU and GA Tech. Im not saying they are great defenses, but compared to UCF, yes they are! Not only that, neither team could stop the Miami passing game.

Im gonna go 45 – 14 Miami runs away with it early.

That sounds about right. Where’s Robert Marve when you need him?
