Spend the next five weeks spending some extra quality time with your wife and children. Get those Honey-do projects done around the house. Maybe take that vacation you’ve been promising the family. Because in five weeks the best time of the year begins. It’s College football season!! Tailgate parties, cheeleaders, marching bands, crazy fans jumping up and down and The Knights. We at FCO wish the Knights a succesful season in 2009. GO KNIGHTS!!

Then again, we all have Saturday mornings now to get our chores done thanks to the Admiral. Wasn’t the point of building the stadium on campus to create the carnival atmosphere and school spirit supposedly lacking with the long hike to the Citrus Bowl? This deal keeps getting worse every year. I now park too far from the game for my disabled wife to walk, pitch camp in a ditch instead of a cultured baseball field, can’t have a beer at the game, can’t have a beer during the game if I decide they’re too bad to watch, can’t picnic with my responsible adult friends before High Noon. What’s next, are they going to rough me up for criticizing them?

There’s church across the street from the stadium that I found. It’s on McCollough right across the street. $20 to park but a short walk. If you have a disabled wife the school must accomodate you though. You should have rock star parking right next to the stadium. I don’t really have a problem with not allowing tailgating until noon for a 6 o clock kickoff. How much time do you need to get liquored up? Six hours should be plenty. You have to remember, that place you are partying on Satuday is first and foremost a college campus. Which means that mess has to be cleaned up by Monday.

After reluctantly cruising the student area North of the parking garage a few times over the passed years, I have to believe the problem being addressed is not the alumni picnicing but rather the underage and excessive drinking by the students. My tailgating crowd of alumni, friends and family routinely starts setting up during the 10 o’clock hour for a 6 p.m. kick-off. We’re always happy to keep the event staff hydrated, fed and backed in the event of conflict. It’s what real fans do at real football schools. What beef does the Academic Departments have with this on a weekend? The Admiral seems intent on throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I guess GKC has enough funds to alienate their alumni donors.
