As some of you already know, I am not only a huge UCF fan but also a huge fan of UF. Right now UF is on top of the college sports world. They’ve won two National Championships in football and basketball in the last four years. They truly are what everyone else wants to be. But, it has not always been that way. It took UF 90 years to win it’s first football title. Think about that. 90 years. UCF had been fielding a football team for 30 years. So if it takes us 60 more years to win a National Title, we are doing no worse than UF. UF had DECADES where they were getting no better. So it got me to thinking, are we better off than 10 years ago? Well, it depends. Facilities wise, we are WAY better off than 10 years ago. Talent wise, no. Not really. The late 90s teams of Duante Culpepper would kick this team’s ass.
There are two ways to measure whather or not we are making progress. First, would be the program’s status as far as things like the stadium, conference affiliation, bowl games, etc. Second, how are we on the field, especially compared to other similar programs. While we are maybe not moving at the snail’s pace Florida did, we are getting blown away by USF and FAU. We are doing well as far as the first part. We have USF and FAU beat facilities wise I think. Now we must do it on the field. That is why we need to act swiftly in getting in a new head coach. Otherwise we’ll be fighting FIU for recruits.

I agree that our facilities are where they need to be. I don’t think, however, that we can really compare what we’re doing to what took UF 90 years to do. In our 30 years we haven’t had to go through the building of college football from the ground up to include making conferences and even instituting the forward pass. UCF’s tasks are far easier: recruit some talent, play to your strengths, and get better each year. Had UCF been doing that every year, heck even the past 5 years, we’d be in a lot better position. I’m not saying we’d be national champs or anything, but we could at least be well respected in CUSA and have a few bowl game wins. FAU has done far more with far less. I’d like to give USF some credit, but I hate them with such a passion it’s hard to remain unbiased in the matter. I FIRMLY agree on the need for a coaching change. 30 years ago, his brand of football would work. I faced more complex offenses when I played high school ball than what O’Leary puts together. I’ll stop before I get off on a rant. Here’s something completely unrelated. I’m a Cowboys fan, and I visit their site regularly. Today I found a video talking about Smokin Joe. He’s picked as their sleeper, and would be an EXCELLENT fit for the Cowboys in my opinion. Here’s the video: http://www.dallascowboys.com/multimedia/multimedia_center.cfm
The video is “The Blitz: CB Preview” They don’t talk about Joe until about the 6:02 mark.

I understand what you are saying as a proud student of UCF (which I refer to as “The Kingdom”) at are age we are better than the big three was when they were in our age of playing football. With that USF has gotten better and was almost in a BCS bowl game. FAU is winning bowl games. UCF is behind the curve. We need a young coach (Charlie Strong) our own Identity(where the hell is the black) and we need to keep big time talent (ray ray armstrong and andre debose) home. George O’leary is not the guy to bring us the swagger to compete. Every Successfull coach (with exception of Jimmy Johnson) who has built a program name has been linked with that team (most people think jimmy j/cowboys instead of the U) When you mention O’leary Football scholors won’t UCF or even GT they are going to think the Guy who got fired from his dream job after three days. By the way when HE was a GT they were an above averge squad, WE want Domance not Mediocre or slitely above.
