It’s almost that time again. Time to buy next year’s season tickets. What to do. What to do? Do I show my loyalty to my school and renew them again? Am I sending the right message to the administration by continuing to pay for tickets while this overpaid, underachieving coach laughs at us all the way to the bank? How do I justify spending money to watch up and down football in the worst economic times of our lives? See, this is the problem. We should be earger to write the check every year for the priveledge of purchasing season tickets to one of America’s finest universities. We should not have to think twice about it. It should be as automatic as paying the rent or mortgage. Do you think Gator season ticket holders are wrestling with this decision? I highly doubt it.

Please ask all existing season ticket holders to negotiate their ticket prices down!
Keith Tribble sent out a happy-gram yesterday about how the benevolent Athletic Association has decided to keep ticket prices the same, as well as keep GKC contribution requirements at the same levels. This is blatantly rude. The athletic association is clearly being mismanaged, as evidenced by the lack of competitiveness of UCF football and basketball programs within the conference and the state. The massive and impressive resources given to the athletic association are clearly being squandered; they simply need to learn to do more with less. Demand for tickets will be down this season, due to the poor economy and the horrible performance of the teams. Keeping the price the same is a recipe for disaster…the only way for the AA to sell the same number of tickets as last year is to lower the price.
When you get the athletic association goons on the phone to renew your tickets, please negotiate with them for lower prices and lower contribution requirements — they have to show that they are willing to do more with less.

I somehow think that won’t work. The budget doesn’t get smaller with your win percentage. So your choice is pretty cut and dry. You either feel it’s worth paying the money or you don’t.

Thankfully I’m not forced with that decision this season as I’ll be away for the season. Were I in your shoes, I don’t think the money would be the hardest part. For me it’s the emotional investment. Year after year it’s nothing but disappointment. I’ve been doing this UCF thing since 1999, and we are no closer to greatness than we were back then. The greatest win we have, in my humble opinion, is the win at Alabama back in 2000. How in 8 seasons have we not had a more substantial win?! Sure we had the C-USA championship, but come on. It’s C-USA. When UCF joined, I figured it would be a nice stepping stone to a BCS conference. Granted I assumed it would take a few years, but I figured in the end, we’d be legit. Now UCF can’t even play football worthy of C-USA (defense, that doesn’t apply to you in the least). So back to the point, good luck in your decision. Look at it this way.. we could be worse.. no wait, we WERE the worst (offense) in college football.

I wouldn’t say it’s been ALL disappointment. That ’07 season was great. Yes it would be nice iftook Florida 90 years to win a NAtional tILTLE we could have beaten USF or Miami since 2000, but there has been some good things since then. If we stay a C-USA type prgram that’s ok with me. But if that’s what we are, let’s go about it trying to be the best C-USA program. Not one that’s good one year and terrible the next. If ten or twenty years go by and we’re still dominating C-USA, that’s fine. It took Florida 90 years to win the National Championship. UCF winning a National Title likely won’t happen in our lifetime. Right now, I would just like to win the Liberty Bowl a few times.

I can’t say much (since I’m not a season ticket holder). But I did get the “tour” of how to become a season ticket holder and the upgrades that are available with a “donation”; the higher the donation…the closer you are to the 50 yard line. And to tell you the truth, I wasn’t impressed. For the kind of money you would have to pay for season tickets (along with the donation), you’re better off getting ESPN’s Gameday along with CSTV’s “Gameday”. Between these two media groups, you can watch approx. 80% of the games and it would be a whole lot cheaper.
The asking price by UCF’s financial gurus is way overboard for what the merchandise offers. Would you pay $10 for a Big Mac? Probably not…unless you’re located in Mongolia and got tired of Yak milk, Yak cheese and Yak meat. Fortunate for us…we don’t have to fork out the $10 to get the fullfilment of having a Big Mac. There are competitors (ESPN’s Gameday and CSTV) out there that will provide the service at a cheaper rate; you gotta love capitalism!
Unless they (UCF) start having drawings for the opportunity of having 10 minute oil wrestling competitions with finely selected UCF female cheerleaders/dancers/volunteer female UCF alumni (during halftime), the price is definately not worth it. At the current moment, the overall “product” is garbage; not the student athletes…just UCF’s approach of “Hey, we have a football team along with a campus stadium. Give me this much for you to spectate them.”
And the thing that kills me most is the fact that it’s not the UCF football players…it’s the f!@#ing coaching staff! We have the players! We definately have the players to dominate C-USA year after year. It’s the coaching philosophy that’s inhibiting UCF football program’s potential as a Non-BCS “Powerhouse”.
In summary, f!@# no! I would not pay for UCF football season tickets unless they brought more to the table. That Big Mac better have a side of large fries, a large drink, a Ronald McDonald toy and a lap dance from the stripper of your choice.
I don’t know who’s more “out of touch” with today’s current events…UCF or that dumbass we called Mr. President the past 8 f!@#ing years.
