Marve is now on the table

By FCOadmin. Posted in General | 3 Comments »

Miami has told Robert Marve that he will be allowed to transfer to either USF or UCF. This will be a good test for O’Leary. It’s a head to head matchup vs Leavitt. One on One. You lose, you have no excuse. Oh I’m sure he’ll come up with one. Marve is from Tampa. Grothe is gone, so the starting job is wide open. Blah Blah Blah. UCF needs this one George. If for no other reason, we need to beat USF at something.

    Two things:

UM gave the Marve family the opportunity to transfer to UCF and USF because they think that USF and UCF are not competitive. They basically don’t want him to succeed at a good program, so have disallowed him from transferring his scholarship eligibility at competitive football programs like Florida, Tennessee, and LSU. Miami is basically saying, “Good luck, Marve, but you can’t play for a team that is better than Miami.” The Marve family has already said that they are insulted by the addition of UCF and USF, and would rather walk onto a competitive program of their choice instead of take a scholarship at a less competitive football program. Both Miami and the Marve family are casting insults to UCF and USF.

Second — Grothe is a junior, right? And he has already announced that he will be staying for his senior year, if the news can be believed. Marve wouldn’t get any playing time were he a Bull next season.

On a completely different subject, Charlie Strong’s coaching of the Florida defense seemed to be the critical piece of the win over a very strong Oklahoma offense (outside of Tim Tebow’s near-Kryptonian natural abilities on offense). It still stings that UCF can’t realize the need for a young coach of his high caliber, especially for a UCF program that can go to conference championships repeatedly on the strength of defense. Though we currently lack any offensive capabilities, we shouldn’t try to transform into high-power offensive team like Tulsa or USF…it leaves you too vulnerable to lose big games, even if you always shellac easy opponents by wide point margins.

Well I don’t know about Marve’s family’s comments, but if he is to be believed, that he wants to stay home, then USF and UCF may be his only options. Wherever he goes, he can’t play next year. So yes Grothe will be gone by the time he is eligible to play. When he is eligible, he will only have two years left since he redshirted at Miami. So I doubt too many top level programs are going to bother with a guy who only has two years left. When’t the last time you saw a Juco QB transfer to USC? Texas? Oklahoma? They usually end up at UCF type schools.

USF will be the place where Marve settles comfortably. All signs point to this future event.

    1) His father is ill (for which he resides in Tampa) and requested his son (Robert) to stay close to his family. The “Bay area” seems close enough; a lot closer than Orlando.

    2) USF offensive scheme compliments Robert’s attributes as a dual-threat QB (refer to USF QB Matt Grothe). …plus, they like to throw the “deep ball” often; unlike UCF.

Just for the record, there’s no such thing as a USF WR. They’re just “butter handed” athletes playing WR position; name me a former WR Bull currently playing in the NFL.

    3) Robert will be the focal point of USF’s offense; what QB doesn’t want that?

    4) Play in a BCS or non-BCS conference? He’ll have more of the spotlight at USF with the national media (if he leads them to a top 25 ranking).

    5) Smooth transition…Matt Grothe will lead USF next year (his Senior year) while Robert is holding the clipboard during the games and studying the playbook at home, during practice, while building a tree house, while walking on the beach collecting seashells. Once Grothe graduates, it’s Marve’s job to lose.

    6) I might be incorrect about this subject, but I think Tampa girls are hotter than Orlando girls. I went to a Bucs game this season and was astonished at the numbers of future “trophy wives” wondering around the stadium looking for attention from the football players entorouge.

Right then and there…I regreted my lack of participation in high school athletics (especially football). I should of been a SS now; playing for a losing team in the NFL with no roster position…allocated to the practice squad. But I still get paid b*&^%! What’s it nowadays…? $150K per year to be a tackling dummy?

Back to the subject at hand…

    7) Who would you take for a head coach? …Leavitt? …or O’Leary?

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case.

    On another note…
My Lions have no 4th round selection. I shall await (in the war room) for the 5th round to make a selection. I’ll be looking for an ILB.
