An Awful lot of coaching talent available

By FCOadmin. Posted in General | 4 Comments »

If some university were inclined to make a move right now, there is a glut of unemployed football coaches right now. The Grudens are looking for work. Phil Fulmer is unemployed. Tommy Tuberville? out of work. Tommy Bowden is unemployed. Tony Dungy is off the clock. I’m not saying these guys would take our job, but it sure is a head scratcher why with all those coaches out of work, why we are hanging on to a guy with a 26-36 record, sitting smack dab in the middle of a recruiting hotbed with brand new facilities. Seems like a place where a coach on hard times could find some instant success to build his resume back up. But what do I know?

Sorry to say but UCF has made it clear that they are not going to make any changes in the football program and O’Leary will continue to collect his paycheck! I wish that there would be change in the direction of the football program and a new head coach, but it will not happen for several more years.

Lets face it, UCF will never move forward under this leadership at UCF’s AA and football program. I’m afraid that UCF fans will have to endure several more years of disappointing alternating with somewhat successful seasons.

But is the program really moving forward? Are we improving the team, widening the fan base, not forgetting about the alumni, building on the UCF name? It does not seem like it to me.

We have Notre Dame’s Charlie Weis Syndrome. We’ll have to put up with all the idiotism O’Leary is well known for (at UCF). Think of it as another 4 year term under this buffoon. We will have to “suck it up” for the half decade.

    Mr. Fedup summarized it nicely.

    On another note…
Mr. Bradford elected to stay at OU. My Lions are screwed. This will change up my “war room” decisions. The likelyhood of having to trade down the #1 pick is slim to none, but I can hope. They are as follows:

    1st Round

#1 OLB Aaron Curry (Wake Forest)
I know what you’re saying… We need a QB. I’m not sold on Stafford and would rather wait for next year. In the meantime, I’ll build around my future QB. Mr. Curry is a playmaker at his position; almost like a Derrick Brooks. He might possibly be the best player out of the draft. Lions need a strong side linebacker…problem solved. Curry will be our starting SLB.

*Other possible choices I wouldn’t mind – OT Andre Smith (Alabama), OT Michael Oher (Ole Miss)

#20 ILB James Laurinaitis (Ohio State)

Detroit has the poorest LB corps in the NFL. New talent needs to be injected into this deflated position. Starting MLB position filled.

*Other possible choices – TE Brandon Pettigrew (OSU), CB Vontae Davis (Illinois), DT B.J. Raji (Boston College)

    2nd Round

    #33 OT Phil Loadholt (Oklahoma)

…will need to beef up that line for Kevin to make his magic. A dude of this size will create holes for Smith and will take approx. 3 days for the opposing DE to get around this mountain; that’s if Loadholt’s gravity doesn’t hold the DE back.

*Other possible choices I wouldn’t mind – DT Peria Jerry (Ole Miss), CB Alphonso Smith (Wake Forest), TE Jermaine Gresham (OU)

    3rd Round

    #65 RB Shonn Greene (Iowa)

What a steal! This guy is gonna be our goal-line RB. Plus, will help with the Kevin Smith’s load (for the latter part of the season). Rudi Johnson (RB #2) is more of a #3 back.

*No need for any other possible choices; this guy is solid in Round 3.

    #82 CB Joe Burnett (UCF)

In need of upgrading the CB position. Hit two birds with one stone…can do kick return and punt return duties; a good lift for the special teams unit.

*No need for any other possible choices; this guy is solid in Round 3.

I think your Lions are going with Matt Stafford. he has a great arm but he’s got a suspect head. At UGA they questioned his concentration and work ethic. Let’s just say he’s no Tebow. He also has a little of that Brett Favre thing going on where he throws way too many up for grabs.

You’ve nailed a couple of points (on Stafford) for which I’d like the Lions to pass up on him and go after a player that will make the most impact; hence, Aaron Curry…but I wouldn’t mind getting an offensive tackle at this pick. Ideally, my hope is for Detroit to trade down…acquire an extra pick (with the trade down) and still draft Mr. Curry.
