Two Knights going to the Pro Bowl

By FCOadmin. Posted in General | 5 Comments »

Congratualtions to Asante Samuel and Brandon Marshall on their Pro Bowl selections this year. Now someone please explain to me how a school that has produced two Pro Bowl players and several other notable NFL players, cannot manage to stay bowl eligible for two straight years? Any coach who can recruit at all should be able to go into ANY five star recruit’s home, especially a DB or WR and show that kid that if you come to UCF, you will be the next in line. You will be compared to Marshall, Smith, Samuel, Bigby, Culpepper, etc. There is no reason why UCF should be recruiting in the 60s and 70s. UCF should be top 25 year in and year out.

It seems you and I shared the exact same thoughts all season, and once again you have hit the nail squarely on the head. I don’t even need a 5 star WR. How about a WR who can just catch the ball? Or maybe a lineman who can hold a block long enough for the QB to at least think about throwing? With the vast number of problems on offense, you really have to stop looking at individual plays and turn to coaching. I’m not sure that I’ve said it on this venue, but I’ve been saying it for years. Back when UCF was head coach shopping, my vote was for Steve Spurrier. Orlando is close to his home, and he was looking to prove himself after getting smacked around in the NFL. His name alone would have brought recruits to UCF. But I digress, it was not to be.

At the time I thought Spurrier’s ego was too big to take a job like UCF. Steve demands the spotlight. But then he took South Carolina, a job that I would have thought beneath him. So who knows? It certainly doesn’t hurt to ask. There are some big time coaches without gigs right now. They might not be interested in UCF but, it sure doesn’t hurt to ask.

I think the Redskins experience humbled Spurrier quite a bit. I suppose it doesn’t really matter much as we went with a guy who lied on his resume. He has not only stopped any progress UCF has made as a program, but he’s taken several steps in the opposite direction. For those O’leary supporters who say he brought us an on campus stadium, I say you are wrong. The on campus stadium was destined to happen at some point in the near future. There were talks about it during my time at UCF 1999-2004, so really, O’leary is just getting credit for something that would have happened anyway. On an unrelated note, let’s go Knights!! Find a way to beat UF in Jax tomorrow!

Wow, this is excellent journalism. Can I guest write an article or two for your site? You are right! There is no reason that UCF shouldn’t be able to walk in the living room of a 5 star athlete and convince him to come the UCF since Brandon Marshall went there. Why the heck would a kid choose to go to an SEC, ACC, Big 12, or PAC 10 school when he can be the next Brandon Marshall right here in Orlando? O’Leary does not know how to coach. Who the hell voted the guy national coach of the year multiple times? It sure wasn’t us at the Orlando Sentinel. Keep up the great work!

    p.s. go gators
p.p.s. I won an autographed Timmy Tebow 2nd testament.

You can write whatever you want. We accept all viewpoints here as long as it’s clean. Since I was not a journalism major and nobody is paying me for my posts, I won’t take offense to your sarcasm. I never said a kid would not want to go to a Big 12 or SEC school. My point is that if UCF had a real coach with some recruiting skills he might be able to land some occasional four and five star talent. He can point to the fact that we have HAD major talent here flourish not only in Orlando, but at the next level. If you go about this recruiting thing with the attitude that no kid above a two star is going to be caught dead here then guess what? You’ll be right. You seem to be making friends quickly in the UCF community. You may want to think twice about alienating the few who agree with you. Go Gators.

P.S. How about next time you post, come up with your own name and not somebody else’s.
