Tonight on ESPN

By FCOadmin. Posted in General | 4 Comments »

We have two teams in the top 15 playing. One team is from a place called Boise Idaho. A place where it has probably snowed in July. If not for a line in a famous Lynyrd Skynyrd song, nobody wold have ever heard of it until the Broncos suddenly showed up on the college football scene about a dozen years ago or so. The other school, TCU, was a perennial doormat in a now defunct conference. A conference where the Big 12 took the big boys, C-USA took the little guys. TCU went to C-USA. After a while they got tired of C-USA I guess and joined the Mountain West. Not exactly the PAC-10 but I guess a step up. Now they are hanging with some of the big dogs. Two examples of what UCF could become with the right leadership. When you watch tonight, try to imagine in a year UCF playing in a game like this. It could happen.

These are the type of teams UCF needs to be like. Unfortunatly the forward pass and George O’Leary are not good friends. I think people around the country love to watch Boise St play. They are exciting, creative, and they win with recruiting classes consistently below 50.
But hey, GOL’s players have good grades. I think it’s great that our players are doing well in the classroom but we are not paying GOL $1.5 Mil a season for this. If it was just about the grades then we should hire Ken Jennings(Jeopardy guy) for the position.

That last line was obviously a bit sarcastic. However, in reality there is no reason UCF can’t do what these teams have done. We’re in a much friendlier spot geographically. We’ve got a rabid fan base and brand new facilities. No reason at all except for one. It’s great that our players are doing well in the classroom and off the field. But there is no reason this team can’t do well on the field at the same time.

I’d just like to point out the FAU is in a bowl game. That’s Florida Atlantic University who has had a football program for less than 10 years and a head coach who is 74 years old. They have no stadium on campus (planned for 2010 or 2011), and have an stellar record of 6-6. You all may have known that FAU was in a bowl already, but this just came to my attention.

Yes I believe I have pointed that out. It’s disgusting to think that these guys have now accomplished something that many O’Leary apologists feel like we can’t. Two straight years with a Bowl game is not too much to expect. Especially when all you have to do is go 6-6. UCF should be bowling every single year.
