Tomorrow the Knights take on UAB in the final home game of the season. It’s a vert winnable game. A game quite frankly we SHOULD win. Taking a look at the C-USA standings you will see that East Carolina has wrapped up the East. ECU has 2 losses. Everyone else including UCF has at least four. So do you realize what that means? It means the 13-10 loss in OT we had vs. ECU is the ONLY THING that will cost us another trip to the Championship Game as long as we beat UAB. THAT’S IT!! We win that game and we would have been the East Champs again. We beat ECU, both of us would have three losses right now and WE would own the tie breaker by winning the head to head matchup. As bad as we have been on offense all year, we were THAT close to winning the East and going to the C-USA Championship game. That proves right there that there is NO excuse for UCF not DOMINATING this conference. That game came down to O’Leary not having the guts to go for 4th and inches in the 4th quarter. Had we gotten that first down, gone down and kicked a field goal, we are playing for a championship tomorrow. Now do you think we need a new coach?

There is no question we need a new coach. We should win today but with this team anything is possible. The offense shouldn’t be this bad 11 games into the season. I am sick and tired of hearing about youth. Guess what George, when you have such an inexperienced O-Line you can’t run up the gut on 1st and 2nd downs. Mix in some screen passes, toss sweeps and some misdirection. The only records you seem to be setting at UCF is total punts in a season. And also, stop blaming the players for not executing. They only perform to the coaching they receive.
So who would we go after for a coach? I would like us to go after a coach who is a proven winner on the 1AA and division 2 levels. I think Chris Hatcher at Georgia Southern is a great winner. I would also be happy with anyone not named GOL.

I disagree that we need a new coach at this time. We won 10 games last year. Did O’leary forget how to coach in one year? I don’t think so. Our offensive line had 1 starter return from last year and three of the guys from last year were drafted and one is starting for the Green Bay Packers. The offensive line is one of the most overlooked problems with this team. It was young and inexperienced and did slightly improve as the year went on. Look for them to be better next year. It was a disappointing year, but I think we have to give it one more year before we make a change. And Jay, you have to blame the players as well as the coaching. I don’t know what team you are watching but I see missed blocks, poor throws, dropped passes, and too many missed opportunities. The coaches can’t play the game for the players. They need to make some plays and they didn’t this year. If there is no improvement next year then you find a new coach. One year removed from winning the conference is not long enough to make that kind of decision. On a side note UCF just landed a 4-star DB. That should boost the recruiting rankings a little.

It’s not that he forgot how to coach in one year. Look at the whole five years. It’s a bad year followed by a good year dollowed by a bad year. If we have a good year next year, are we all supposed to jump back on the bandwagon only to be subjected to a bad year again in 2010? Then in 2010 are you going to say we can’t fire him after one bad year? This isn’t one bad year. This is THREE bad years out of five. And there is NO excuse for it. NONE! Hooray we landed a 4-star DB. What about the 4 start WR that de-committed? We are the school that produced Atari Bigby, Asante Samuel, Travis Fisher and now Joe Burnett. We SHOULD be landing 4 star DBs. We SHOULD be landing 5 Star DBs. We also produced Brandon Marshall, Mike Walker, Shawn Jefferson, Jimmy Fryzel, etc. We SHOULD be able to land some 4 and 5 star WRs. Yes tyhe players need to make plays, but that leads back to the chicken and the egg. Who recruited these players? Who is coaching these players? Who keeps flip flopping from game to game and sometimes series to series on his QB? Did he forget how to coach in one year? I’m not sure he ever really knew.

What are you talking about forgetting how to coach in one year? A good coach doesn’t get into this situation with inexperience. If the O’Line is this young then why are we running off tackle on 1st and 2nd downs. Some people like to blame Salem but it all comes back to GOL. GOL is now 26-36 in five seasons at the helm with 3 losing seasons. I could understand 26-36 in the SEC, Big 12, or Big Ten but in a super weak C-USA, come on now.
I have alot of respect for what Sly Croom did at Mississippi St. He resigned after 5 years for not getting it done.
Don’t get me wrong, I am very glad we have a 4 star DB who verbally commited but we did just lose a highly rated WR who decommited to go to a team that runs the triple option.
