Already getting grief

By FCOadmin. Posted in General | 4 Comments »

I knew this would happen. O’Leary supporters and fans of other schools calling us whiners and saying we’re a bunch of crybabies for wanting the coach replaced a year out from a championship. Well to those people I would like to bring up Philip Fulmer. Were Tennessee fans wrong to want him fired? After all, UT played in the SEC Championship Game just last year. I know because I remember stopping on University Avenue to eat after we had just won the C-USA Championship Game and there they were on TV giving the eventual National Champ, LSU, all they could handle. Now, 10 games later , Fulmer is cleaning out his desk.

You see, at UT, they EXPECT to compete, not just hope to compete, for championships every year. Notice I didn’t say they expect to WIN championships, but they expect to be in the running. When that does not happen for the second time in four years, they kick their second all time winningest coach to the curb. A coach that ten years ago went undefeated and won the BCS National Title, is shown the door. UT fans probably would have been happy had the Vols beaten UCLA, Wyoming, and two out of four against Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and Alabama. Had they beaten let’s say, the two weakest of the four, Auburn and Georgia, they would not beĀ  in the running for the SEC Title. However, the fans would be more than happy. But they do not and should not accept 3-7. Nor should we.

O’leary supporters are the reason that UCF is UCiF. They make excuses as to why next year we will be better, and just around that corner we will have good recruits, and somewhere over the rainbow we will be competing with the “the big 3.” Unfortunately for me, I have been following this program since 95′ when expressing all those thoughts were valid. We were competitive and we “almost” won various big games. 13 years later and we are no closer to pulling off the big upset and getting over the proverbial “hump.” In fact, we are further away. Just look at the recruiting, under GOL we have far less talented recruits at skilled positions, we have no QB to run the “so called” offense and the game day planning is the worst I have ever seen since following this program. It’s obvious GOL’s arrogant and condescending attitude towards the players and other coaches have left us with a lame duck coach. GOL now stoops to the lowest level blaming everything on the players and other coaches. Well that’s just great, what a winning attitude to exude for all the players and coaches. What a great example GOL is setting for the student body. Sorry, but all the GOL apologists are doing everyone that wants UCF to grow and prosper a disservice. These losing seasons are unacceptable, it’s his 5th year, we shouldn’t be rebuilding at this point. We’re in CUSA and we’re getting dogged by UTEP. Please, O’leary is a joke and so are all the like minded people that still support him.

The GOL supporters are dwindling day by day but there are always going to be people who drink his cool-aid. I think we all gave GOL a pass in 2004 for the 0-11 season thinking that was part of the path to progress. Well, four years later the team looks exactly the same. Conference USA is a very weak conference with most teams playing poor defense. Even more concerning is that our offense is ranked 119 out of 119 teams, most of which play bad defense.
Under GOL, the recruiting classes have supposedly been getting better and better and some said UCF’s best classes ever. I disagree totally. The Daunte Culpepper teams of the late 90’s would wipe the floor with this team. And oh yeah, they were better than last years championship team as well.
Its just plain and simple that GOL needs to go. Now being able to afford to fire him is another topic.

GOL is #53 on the list….What does that get us, the 119th ranked offense in the FBS….People who support continue to support him, are doing UCF a major injustice. I was a huge GOL supporter until this season, when I finally realized that this guy isn’t going to take us any further than we are today.

Honestly, a C-USA championship doesn’t excite me, and nor should it excite any UCF fans…It should be EXPECTED…For christ sakes people, we are the 6th largest University in the Nation, it’s time we start acting like the 6th largest University in the Nation.

Tennessee doesn’t accept mediocrity, nor does Clemson, nor does Washington..It looks as if Charlie Weiss is walking a very fine line at Notre Dame. We need to thank GOL for all that he’s done, just thank him as we are booting him in the ass, right out of town!!

While I think Fulmer is being given a bad deal, O’leary has not earned that type of respect. UT fans want UT to beat Florida, Beat Georgia and comepete for a NC year after year. Thats a tough thing to do yearly. Lets be clear in our case we are talking about Conference USA, not the SEC. We should EXPECT to compete to the championship every year. Heck I think Nease or Miami Northwestern could compete in CUSA. O’leary has been up and down every year and in his fifth year is blaming our performance on youth and inexperience. This is the time when he should have stud juniors and seniors who have been learning his program for several years. This obviously points to him not doing a good job recruiting. Face it without Kevin Smith last year we would probably have had a season similar to this one. It is time for new young blood. We cannot risk losing what we have been able to build the last few years.
